This is a short video which shows the sights and sounds (but not the smells) of life in the Kibera Slums
For only $25 a month you can help a child escape the cycle of poverty through education.
This video was made by a school in Pennsylvania for INTERNATIONAL CHEERY CHILDREN DAY, MAY 04, 2018
The Cheery children education centre was founded in 2009 and it’s situated in the heart of the Kibera slums in Nairobi Kenya. Kibera slums houses about 1.5 Million people making it the biggest slum in Africa and one of the biggest in the world. The sole purpose of the centre is to serve children from vulnerable families in Kenya especially those living in Kibera slum in Nairobi. It’s not simply a centre for those vulnerable and hungry children but a place where character is nurtured and hope given to the children. We espouse the fact that Education is the soul of a society as it passes from one generation to another and it’s the focus of CCEC and it remains one of our goals to remain true to the fact that quality and affordable education is more than a luxury; it is a responsibility that the society owes to itself. Children are the country’s greatest resource and represent hope for a better future. Profound poverty, competition for scarce resources, local conflicts, addictions and lack of educational opportunities put these children at extreme risk for illiteracy, illness, hopelessness, sexual abuse and the meagre resources accessible is the common definition of the urban poor child living in the Kenyan slums. Few opportunities exist for the children of Kibera slum and the other surrounding slums that allow them to learn and grow to their full potential.
Thanks to the wonderful folks from ... for the donation of tablets to help being the scholars at Cheery into the Age of Technology!
DREAMS DO COME TRUE!
Kennedy dreamed of becoming a photographer, but without a camera, it was just a dream.
A team from The Wonderment Project came to the school to help equip and decorate the classroom for the students to have a beautiful place to learn!
Shalini, Abigael and Getrude on a class trip to Mamba Village,Wilson Airport and The Giraffe Centre.
My grandson, Desmond, saved up his money and sent it to Cheery to buy food for the students.
Joining forces with like minded people, we began a student sponsorship program, which has been making a significant difference in the lives of the students at Cheery Children Education Centre. It is my dream to be able to help acquire land and build a new school and community center, and a boarding facility for those students who are in need of a safe place to grow up. We are limited in our ability to finance this dream, but nothing is too big for God.
It only costs $25 a month to sponsor a student at Cheery. That covers tuition, uniforms and meals. Help a child escape the cycle of poverty through education.
